Three Dimensional Televisons

-by Noah S.-

Have you ever gone to a 3-D movie that you liked so much you had to go again? Imagine having your own 3-D TV at home where you could watch your favorite movies in 3-D anytime you want. Over the past few months 3-D TVs have been released by Panasonic, Samsung and next month the Sony Corporation will release their own version. NVIDIA a media company that has learned to make 3-D possible for your computer but wearing special glasses. They have created a special pair of glasses which can switch your 3-D view, making first person shooter games more realistic and challenging. There are a few monitors capable of running 3-D but they are expensive.

Sony has announced that all PS3s sold after 2006 will be available for the 3-D update. PS3s are already capable of playing 3-D games but there are not made yet. A new 3-D TV will be required. There are no games for the PS3 yet, even if you have all the updates, the TV and shutter glasses, regular games cannot be seen or played in 3-D. Games will be released before the end of 2010.

Geosocializing

Social networking has stormed onto the scene in the past few years, to create a mad frenzy of updates from people through all sorts of outlets. Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and about a dozen others have brought people around the world into a new technology blitz in which people are more electronically connected with their neighbors than ever before.

How Teachers Have Their Fun

-by Alex B.-

Ever wondered what your teachers are like outside of school? Well here’s your chance! Students at Astoria High School spent over half the year with these teachers and only see them in their teaching environments. I, Alex Beeson, have taken part in an investigation to find out what they are really like.

First on the list of teachers we have Ms. Billett. At School, Ms. Billett is an English teacher, but when she returns home, she is greeted by her five racing cats that she trains to compete. On the last Sunday of every month, Ms. Billett gathers her speedy kitties and heads to the race courses in Ashland, Oregon. Over 500 racers and trainers gather together and race cats. Last month, Heathcliff, Mr. Darcy, Charles, Tiny Tim and Lucie (the names of all Ms. Billetts cats) placed first in the 4X1 relay and Charles and Mr. Darcy both placed first in their events. “I am so proud of my little babies!” stated Ms. Billett “Next year the National races are being held in Eugene and I am planning on entering all of my darlings in their best events. Très bien kitties!” If there are any students interested in entering the cat races with Ms. Billett, she encourages them to talk to her sometime during break in her classroom.

Enjoying Summer 101

-by Jessica G.-

Summer is right around the corner and everybody is excited for high school to be out, either for the summer or forever. However, once the summer is in full swing, people realize sometimes that they have nothing to do. Many days students are found sitting around, watching T.V. or sleeping. That is when they start to wish that something fun would happen, even if it is at school. Here are some ideas to make sure that this summer turns out better than the ones before it.

The first thing on the priority list is to find things you want to do. Plan out what you are doing for the week even if it isn’t something huge. It could be as simple as just going for a stroll on the river walk or spending a day in Portland or Seattle. Don’t get too stressed about it either. Summer is supposed to fun, not headache worthy.

I Had the Craziest Dream Last Night!

-by Antonio L.-

According to an article written by CNN, your dreams can tell a lot about your mood and maybe reveal elements of your state of mind you weren’t aware of. If you have recently had a dream about flying, taking an exam, being nude, almost dying, or being in the wrong relationship with someone, than you might get some benefit out of that dream if you pay attention to it. Dreams are an extremely rich source of practical advice, and other alternatives about what is going on in our lives. Dreams come from such a different part of us that they are a good support to our rational waking.

A Word of Advice...

-by Dakota E.-

High school is a wonderful time of self reflection and study. As a student you begin to learn many different things about yourself. This knowledge can be applied to both school and social settings and includes a person’s likes and dislikes. The things you learn and experience may shape your life or change it forever. Although high school is fantastic, it is also filled with drama, disappointments, and frustrations. High school provides education for various subjects but it doesn’t give you a textbook for life. No individual can tell you how to manage your high school career but listening to advice from a former student may help.

March Mustache Madness

by: Jessica G

During March nobody at Astoria High School was surprised to see men walking around the school with extremely weird mustaches.  It was all part of March Mustache Madness, invented by Mr. Hill.  All male teachers were supposed to grow a beard and then turn it into an unusual and strange mustache.  There were mustaches ranging from the “handle bar” to “caveman” as some people called Mr. Lockett’s mustache.
